Get  a great start to the New Year - join the Grape Girls and friends at the Atlanta Union Mission to serve up  a little food and cheer. Volunteer duties will include food preparation and/or sorting clothing donations.

The Mission serves as many as 1,070 men, women and children every day of the year with emergency shelter, residential recovery and transitional housing. More info: www.atlantaunionmission.com.

NOTE: Please come thru the front door upon arrival to check-in. You will then be escorted to the Chapel and receive your volunteer assignment.

VOLUNTEER FOOD SERVICE GUIDELINES

 

  1. Hands must be washed thoroughly and sanitized before starting work and after each absence from workstation and other times as needed.  Gloves can be used while preparing food but are not mandatory.
  2. Comfortable closed-toe shoes with sturdy bottoms must be worn to ensure safety while in the kitchen.  Gym/tennis shoes or sneakers are acceptable. 
  3. Aprons and hair nets or caps must be worn at all times.
  4. Food services gloves must be worn when serving food.
  5. Please avoid chewing gum, eating candy, snacking, drinking beverages, or scratching one’s head in food preparation areas.
  6. Jewelry such as rings, bracelets, or watches must be removed from the hands when preparing food.
  7. Individuals with respiratory infections such as coughing, sneezing, and influenza must notify the kitchen supervisor and/or head cook so alternative arrangements can be made for the position.
  8. Persons affected by a disease in communicable form, such as boils, sores, infected wounds, or other abnormal sources of infection will not be allowed to work in food service.
  9. Clothing and/or personal belongings must not be stored in areas where food is stored or prepared.
  10. The container that holds cleaning pads, plugs, and sponges must be cleaned daily.
  11. Keep the back door locked at all times.
  12. No combs or brushes are allowed in the kitchen.
  13. Do not leave brooms, mops, or buckets outside.
  14. Keep work surfaces clean at all times, wiping up any spillage at once.
  15. All volunteers are responsible to the head cook on duty.  Please be mindful that the head cook is accountable for the entire kitchen and crews.
